The Ultimate Skin Care Routine For Summer
The scorching summer heat can be brutal for your skin and body. Heat, humidity, pollution causes many skin related issues. Few changes in your lifestyle and everyday skincare regime will help you achieve a wonderful glowing skin and a healthy body.
FOR YOUR BODY
Summers take a toll on the body. The scorching heat, pollution, humidity makes skin dull and oily, and sometimes, invites infections. Maintaining overall hygiene goes a long way in tackling overall heat. Bathing twice will keep you fresh and active. Wear cotton and lighter fabric as tight cloths can cause irritation. Your whole body needs extra attention at this time of the year.
1. EXFOLIATE:
Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin from the outer surface of the skin. It is very essential to exfoliate your skin to remove the dead cells as it gets little drier in summers. You can exfoliate in two different ways:
Dry Brushing:
You can do dry exfoliation of skin before taking a bath. Just rub your skin with a dry brush in circular motions before stepping into the bath, it will remove dead cells from the surface of the skin and also improve blood circulation. Most experts recommend dry-brushing in the morning, rather than before bed because they believe it has energizing qualities.
Wet Brushing:
Wet brushing, on the other hand, involves scrubbing your skin with an exfoliation tool such as a wet skin brush, a loofah, or a washcloth using water. It helps to get rid of dirt, oil, and dead skin cells that clean up the skin and ensures there is no build-up of waste that may encourage bacterial growth.
2. ESSENTIAL OILS:
Essential oils have been used for centuries to repair, soothe and calm several skin conditions while also rejuvenating the body. Summer means sweat which brings along a lot of germs too. Prevent this by mixing a few drops of rosemary essential oil in your bathwater. Few drops of coconut oil in your bath will moisturize your skin. There are many kinds of essential oils like lavender oil, peppermint oil, orange essential oil etc. Adding these to the bath will not only nourish the skin, hair and the body externally but they also provide benefits like reducing stress, relaxing the body and increase the blood circulation. They have a soothing and calming effect on the body and as well as on the mind.
3. EAT LIGHT:
Your body is what you eat. Have seasonal fruits and vegetables. Avoid oily food and sugary drinks. Hydrate your body by drinking a lot of fluids. Opt for healthy drinks like coconut water, vegetable juices, fruit juices and smoothies. Hydration is the key, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water.
FOR YOUR FACE
Summer is the time when oily skin gets more oily and dry skin gets patchy. Pimples and breakouts, roughness and rashes, dry skin, tanning, dead skin, acne etc are various by-products of this intense weather. Here’s what we will do to keep our skin extra hydrated in summers.
1. CLEANSING, TONING AND MOISTURIZING
No skincare routine can begin without a clean canvas: the first step to a good regime is a gentle cleansing, both in the morning and evening, as it’ll relieve oiliness. This will also help decongest your pores and lower the chances of breakouts. Using the right cleanser is extra important; a gel or foam cleanser is ideal for oily and acne-prone skin as they’ll clean deep into pores without leaving any residue. Start with an oil-based cleanser to melt away SPF, makeup, and pollution. Then follow with a water-based cleanser.
Toning:
Toning is essential as it removes any last traces of dirt and makeup and it can help to improve skin texture and tone, and it also helps to close the pores. A good toner is essential for acne-prone skin as it’ll help minimize the appearance of pores, balance oil production and brighten and even out skin tone.
Moisturizing:
A good moisturizer is the essential final step in a hydrating skincare regime. Make sure you’re moisturizing morning and night, not only will it add more hydration, but it will add more nutrients to the skin while locking in all that moisture
2. SCRUBBING
Scrubbing helps to keep the skin healthy as well as remove dirt stored in the skin and clear the face. In fact, experts recommend scrubbing once a week as dead skin cells do not come on the facial skin every day.
Benefits of scrubbing:
- Deeply cleanses and exfoliates
- Helps refine skin texture
- Helps minimize the appearance of pores
- leaves skin soft and smooth
3. FACE PACKS AND MASK
Face masks help to hydrate skin, removes excess oils and help to remove impurities. After scrubbing its important to apply face packs as they soothe skin and helps with open pores. There are many face packs available in the market and you can also make homemade face packs.
4. WEARING SPF DAILY
Summers are fun and are a time to enjoy as well as take care of our body as scorching heat can do more harm than good, so taking care of your skin and body on a whole are a lot more essential. These are a few basic tips that will go a long way in meeting your summer goals.
